.:: The Virtual Archive of Malagasy Music is a web portal that provides bibliographic and discographic references on the music of Madagascar and gives access to texts, pictures and music samples.

The literature section contains copies of journal articles, books, and music related passages from books. The sound collection includes both commercially produced recordings and unpublished field recordings.

Due to copyright restrictions, there is only a part of the material available to read or listen to online. The whole collection of sounds, written and iconographic material can be consulted in two places: the Institute of Musicology at the University of Vienna, and the National Library of Madagascar in Antananarivo.

The Virtual Archive of Malagasy Music is currently based on co-operation between several Malagasy, Austrian, French and German partners. The spectrum of collaboration will have to be enlarged in the near future.

The goal of the project is to provide access to the most important documents on Malagasy music from different institutions and private collectors. To achieve its goal, the project will both store digitized material in two central places (Antananarivo and Vienna), and link distributed digital resources which can be reached through the Internet ("virtual archive").
